He is one of the founders of Diffusion and has driven it now for more than 25 years. Under his stewardship, the Company is poised to grow to INR 1 billion. He has introduced many new technologies in the Indian industry and has vast experience in solving wear problems.

Mr. PRASHANT GARG, Director
MBA from Saďd Business School, University of Oxford with focus in Strategy, M & A and Leadership. He earlier completed his B.E. in Industrial Engineering and was among the top rankers at Nagpur University. He developed a state-of-the-art production facility to manufacture sophisticated cement, power and steel plant equipment at Diffusion and also pioneered the concept of total wear solutions. He has driven the new innovations and added new product lines in the business.

A Doctorate in Metallurgy and having strong technical expertise in the field of Metallurgy, he completed his B.E. in Metallurgical Engg. in 1961 from Saugar University in Honours Division. Was awarded University Gold Medal for standing First in the University at the B.E. examination. Completed M.E. from Pune University in 1964, passing in First division with Distinction. Was awarded Ph.D. degree from Nagpur University in 1977.

Completed B.E. (Mining) from Banaras Hindi University and is a Non Executive Director in the Company since 1994. He has earlier been the Chairman Cum Managing Director - Govt. of India Enterprises, Bharat Gold Mines Ltd, Kolar Gold Field & Mineral Exploration Corpn. Ltd, Nagpur for a period of 10 years and 5.5 years respectively. He was also the Chairman, Board of Director - Government of Karnataka, Hutti Gold Mines Ltd, Raichur for 2 years. He holds a Certificate of Competency for 1st Class Mines Manager - Coal & Metal Mines, and has completed his Management training for Public Sector Senior Executives at from IIM Kolkatta.

A special purpose basic coated electrode with excellent arc stability and an easily detachable slag on a smooth bead. The weld metal is a Cr-Ni-Mo martensitic stainless steel. When deposited on mild steel, it gives a hardness of 40-42 HRc on second layer and 37-39 Rc on fifth layer. The weld deposit has excellent resistance to corrosion, pitting and impact loads. All Diffusion make FCW (OA Type) deposited through wire feeder machine require no separate shielding gas. The wire flux
content ensures deposition consistency over a wide range of conditions. Increase in voltage produces flatter beads.
Excessive spatter indicates the need to reduce voltage. Reduced amperage assists minimum dilution and penetration.
SOP - (with Ultrahard Chromium Boride)
SOP - Ultra hard Chromium boride crystals with a hardness second only to diamond is the ultimate answer as on antiwear coating for parts subjected to severe abrasion and particles impact erosion.

SOP - Exhibiting a needle like micro-structure provides a hardness of RC 68-72 with a maximum coating thickness of just 1.5 mm only. The unique needle line structure resists penetration by flying particles ensuring highly extended service life of the parts coated with SOP.

SOP has a wide array of applications in continuous process industries such as power, mining, iron ore pelletisation, cement, sugar, paper etc. SOP is being extensively used by Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) of air separators, pneumatic pumps, coal mills, boiler equipment, fans etc., as well.

ID fans, FK pump screws, air separator guide vanes, wear plate liners, coal venturis & pipes, mill discharge valves, coal mill side liners, chutes, scrapers, bamboo chippers , air preheater ducts etc., are only a few of the several applications for this super anti-wear alloy.
Wear plates manufactured by using SOP provide buckets of heavy earth moving equipment such as dragline, shovels, wheel loaders etc., freedon from wear.

PROCEDURE SOP coating can be done by oxy-acetylene as well as carbon arc process.

Oxy-Acetylenne Process Remove dust, grease scales etc.. Apply SOP by a brush to a maximum thickness of 1.5 mm. Allow it to dry. Apply a generous carburising flame at a point till the crystals stop glowing. It indicates sweating i.e. bonding of SOP with base metal. As the bonding proceeds, move the flame along at a rate sufficient to keep the sweating ahead of the flame. Width of the path depends on the surface area and base metal thickness.

Carbon Arc Process On sections exceeding 6mm, carbon arc methods is recommended. Remove dirt, grease, scale etc. and slightly warm the surface. Apply SOP with brush to a maximum thickness of 1.5 mm.
Allow it to dry. Use a pointed 6mm/8mm carbofuse (-ve polarity) for fusing. Provide beads of uniform width with crescent shaped weaves. Advance at a rate sufficient to keep surface sweating ahead of the arc. Overlap succeeding beads to ensure uniform penetration. Literature

i-2 is a low melting Ni-Cr-B-Si atomized alloy powder suitable for brazing of stainless steel and super-alloy assemblies. i-2 combines excellent strength and oxidation resistance for service temperatures to 980C0 (1800 F0) Widely used for furnace brazing aircraft parts, food handling equipment and medical devices. i-2  exhibits good flow and low base-metal erosion.

Brazing recommendations

Best results are achieved with vacuum or controlled atmosphere brazing. Brazing temperature 1010C0 to 1175Co/ For lowest base metal erosion select a temperature at the low end of the range. Joint ductility can be increased by increasing the brazing temperature. The furnace cycle and hold time at temperature will also influence the mechanical properties.

Description

i-8 is a free-flowing nickel-silicon-copper-manganese brazing filler metal produced by a specialized atomising process. i-8 has excellent oxidation resistance for service temperatures to 815oC and produces high-strength, high-ductility joints on base metals including stainless steel, nickel and nickel alloys. i-8 produces minimal base metal erosion making it highly suitable for brazing thin walled assemblies such as heat exchangers and honeycomb.

Brazing recommendations

Best results are achieved with vacuum or controlled atmosphere brazing. Brazing temperature –  1010oC to 1095oC. For lowest base metal erosion select a temperature at the low end of the range. Joint ductility can be increased by increasing the brazing temperature. The furnace cycle and hold time at temperature will also influence the mechanical properties.

Wear Plates & Wear Components

Diffusion manufactures wide range of wear plates(Steel Plates containing hard wear resistant overlays) at its plant using flux cored wire welding process. It must be highlighted that the flux cored wires required are manufactured by diffusion itself at its high technology production unit in active collaboration with M/s. Corodur of Germany.

The formulation of various types of flux cored wire used for a comprehensive range of wear plates is carefully designed to a weld metal (overlay) of such composition and micro-structures that would provide extra long service life under a variety of hard service conditions involving high stress abrasion. Erosion, corrosion and impact as well as elevated temperature.

Diffusion has mastered the art of overlaying with flux-cored-wire welding under the guidance of highly experience German technicians and engineers from corodur, the bead profile and the fine pattern of stress relief cracks ensures that during services, the deposits would not small under extreme conditions.

Apart from the standard wear plates of pre-designed compositions, Diffusion's R & D is fully capable of developing custom made overlay compositions to meet specific application needs of customers.
